This collection of poems are extra special to me. In my Witness, I describe being compared to King David and these are my psalms; love songs to God. Some I wrote over time and struggled a bit with and others poured out of me all at once; the latter always being better. One such, Bight Morning Star, hit me out of the blue one day at work. I was walking to my desk from an office when my back suddenly felt cold and wet. At the same moment, I had a vision of a shepherd boy laying on his back in a field at night, looking up at the stars. This happened in just a second without me breaking stride. A moment later, I was at my desk and a poem fell out of me reflecting my experience. I am convinced God showed me a real moment from the ancient past and I found the connection between David and the Bright and Morning Star in The Book of Revelation, 22:16. I hope you find this collection inspiring and helpful in your own spirit quest. And if you feel in your heart that you resonate with any of these poems, the fact you feel that way makes it as much your love song to God as mine and He would receive it as if you wrote it for Him yourself.

A Cross Encounter
A longtime ago
on an old, city street,
A man I knew not
fell down on His knees.
I watched His legs buckle
from the weight on His back.
Then watched the cross tumble
and land with a crack.
The blood from His forehead
had mixed with His tears,
yet the sight of His torment
removed all my fears.
And so I stepped forward
to carry His load,
then marched on behind him
a-ways down the road.
But I strained in confusion
as I followed His gait;
He still hobbled over
from some terrible, weight.
At the place of The Skull
I surrendered the tree,
then passed in amazement;
He smiled at me!
Now two-thousand years later,
I remember the day
when He hung on that cross
and drove sins all away.
And still I keep vigil
to carry the cross,
for all who come near me
suffering a loss.
Take heed all ye burdened
or wrongfully done-
I’ll carry your cross;
your freedom, He won!
Bright Morning Star

A shepherd boy lay calm and still
beneath the starry, predawn sky.
The dewy, grass felt cool and soft
as safely grazed his flock nearby.
With folded hands behind his head,
he breathed in deep the close of night.
Then pondered hard the Morning Star
that gleamed above with Holy Light.
The voice was soft, yet wide and deep,
that came to him from near and far…
“It’s lovely, yes, the Light that shines,
from out my Bright and Morning Star!”
One tear escaped the ruddy face,
that tracked its way across his cheek.
Then flushed with warmth and joy he lay
and listened to our Father speak.
“My precious, child,” the Voice went on,
“One day that light will come to Earth.
And by His Grace, through sacrifice,
believing souls will find rebirth.”
“You see, my son, your love for me
prepares the way salvation brings.
And from your line, the Lord will rise-
My Holy One, The King of Kings!”
Drawn to the Light

Far, far away,
beyond all hope for tomorrow,
past the celestial glow,
in the unending, darkness of night;
Awaits the firm, loving hand
of a Father,
who patient and wise,
gazes with held breath,
As He observes
the first, slow, faltering steps of His children.
Gifts

As each soul came forth
to render their gifts,
laid down at the feet of their King
The angels stood by
in wonder and awe,
in witness of which they would sing.
Our Holy Lord smiled
as presents of love
amassed in front of His Throne.
His children kneeled low
in homage and thanks
to render what they could bestow.
And so they left tears,
in regret of their sins.
Plus laughter for Grace they received.
They also left lives
they had laid down for friends
and joy for the faith they believed.
Then all of these gifts
that were left for The Lamb
so sweetly revealed whence they came.
They mirrored the Love
that had come from The Lord
and the works that were done in His Name.
Growing Grace

With gentle whispers, so does Grace abound.
In softest hues it spreads its cloak around.
A Grace of which the blind can’t fully see,
Because the world consumes their industry
Until it will in each of us astound.
We know it as we feel it take a hold,
And sense it in our days as they unfold.
But little does it sway the way we give
Or give us pause to think of how we live,
Until our love of loving self grows old.
For Grace will cause our love of self to tire,
as once alight it sets our souls a-fire.
And as the flame inside us comes of age,
It vanquishes the greed, the want, the rage,
To spur our joy of service ever higher.
And thus the price we pay is what we lose,
When freely giving up our right to choose.
And so in dying to ourselves we yield
Then humbly in the Word take to the field,
Prepared to give up all that He would use.
But what we gain does bring us so much more
Than all we have surrendered from before.
And in the light of Glory find our way,
With Grace always to guide us, lest we stray,
That we may see our God and thus, adore!
Judgement Day

The mountains moved aside,
and rivers changed their course,
and all trees bowed in homage
before the gilded horse.
The King surveyed the landscape,
not missing leaf or stone,
while going to give judgement
upon His waiting throne.
He came here fresh from battle
with victory at hand-
the darkness had been beaten
at evil’s final stand.
And so, His throne He mounted,
above the waiting throng,
prepared to render Judgement,
but not of right or wrong.
The masses kneeled in silence,
as mankind’s fate was found,
for all who ever lived on Earth-
to Judgement Day were bound.
The Book of Life was opened
and names were read aloud-
of all the true believers
who loved Christ, in the crowd.
And as each name was spoken,
a person took to wing
and flew off to the right of
their just and Holy King.
And so, the crowd before Him
re-formed as names were read-
to separate believers
from those who’s hearts were dead.
The final names were spoken-
the separation done,
and all were knelt in silence
before God’s only Son.
The King addressed the masses,
arrayed now on His right
and thanked them for their kindness
when He was sore with plight.
And they, in kind, responded,
“When did we help so, Thee?”
“You did it for your brothers
alas, it was for me!”
The King then faced the others
who’s names He did not read
and said they never helped Him
when He was sore in need.
And those then raised their voices,
“When did we fail you so?”
“When you denied your brothers-
you also told Me, “No.”
“So, evil ones! Depart Me!
You’ve lost your time to pray!”
And thus a wave of fire,
swept all of them away.
And so the unbelievers
were whisked by tongues of flame
into The Lake of Fire-
damned to burn, in shame.
Then our dear Lord, Jesus,
His righteous Judgement made,
Looked sweetly, with a smile,
On those that He had saved.
And so, His arms extended,
and Heaven’s Gate swung wide.
The Lord then bade His people,
“You’re home; now come inside.”
And so the true believers,
with bodies, whole and new,
went in to see their Father,
and found their loved ones too!
And gathered so in Heaven,
with family and friends,
they sang to Him, with angels,
the Song that never ends.
Lamb & Lion

A carpenter from Galilee once set the world aflame.
And to this day the fire still burns,
with power in His Name.
He came to us so long ago, to teach us all of love.
And with a Spirit, Meek and Mild
brought blessings from above.
The Lamb of God gave healing and hope to those in need,
but had to suffer unto death,
that souls could thus be freed.
Yet death could not contain His Love and so He broke its chains.
Then rose again to Heaven’s Throne
and with His Father reigns.
His reign will then extend to Earth when Jesus comes again.
We do not know the day or time….
nobody knows just when?
But when He does, it’s not the Lamb, but Lion who will rise!
With Power Great and Purpose Strong,
His Word will fill the skies.
And so, an Angel Army comes, to bring God’s reign on Earth,
with Judah’s Lion at the fore,
that all shall see His Worth.
Then every knee on Earth shall bend in homage to our King;
He comes to claim what’s rightly His-
and will salvation bring!
Perpetual Grace

It seems in times of darkness,
when I’m beset by tragic woes,
I put aside my mortal lusts
and turn again where goodness flows.
And when I see the perfect light
I dare to spurn when things are good,
I once again set on my knees,
as ever so I know I should.
Slowly lifts my troubled face;
my tearful eyes beseech the light,
my hands are clasped in fervent prayer-
as once again I seek God’s might.
And though I’m undeserving,
because in sin I have my fun.
I know that God will hear my call-
my soul was ransomed by His Son.
So, my great Almighty Father
does wrap His arms around my soul,
and with His purest, deepest love
does make my ruptured spirit whole.
Though afterward I turn away
and find myself again in sin;
forgetting how my Lord did die,
in searing pain- my soul to win.
So now my Lord, I kneel in prayer-
a special blessing to request;
that you will help me keep in mind,
the way in which my heart is blessed.
Then I’ll turn aside temptation,
always wrapped in reverent thought.
Never to forget again-
the way in which my soul was bought.
And so that when my time has come,
and I am brought before your throne;
I’ll get to see Lord Jesus smile,
and say, “he truly is My own.”
Reunited

Just before she heard the call
and thus had felt her spirit rise,
her thoughts, of course, were still of him
before he took for angel’s skies.
For ever since her love was called,
her empty days were often filled
by soft reflection of their time
before their loving song was stilled.
Sure she tried to turn the page
and focus on the here and now,
but all the things of life it seemed,
returned her thoughts to him somehow.
The joys of life were not as sweet
as when those joys with him were shared.
The hurts of life caused deeper pains
without the one who always cared.
But as her own time finds its end,
she’s called into salvation’s plan
and finds in bliss, him waiting there
for her; her heart, her love, her man.
And thus rejoined within their love,
He leads her to The Holy Throne,
From whence all love has found its source,
And soul mates are forever home.
Soldier of The Lord

The crushing weight of darkness rears its head.
My soul recoils and disavows the dread,
and girds itself to block the evil’s spread,
by summoning the Vanguard of The Light.
Then so equipped, I brace to face the Dark.
With Shield of Faith and Sword of Truth I spark
the Holy Light that trains upon my mark,
to counteract the deepening off night.
The rushing sound of wind somehow takes hold
and pushes back on me, so much to scold.
Though in my zeal, determined not to fold,
I stand my ground and fight to save the day!
Yet soon I start to stumble in the gale,
but catch myself lest I should fall and fail.
Then with a push, the Evil I assail,
determined I should die or have my way!
Then just when it appears that all is loss,
I see it rise! -The Shadow of The Cross!
And with its strength my fears and doubts I toss,
as harder still I strike to right the wrong.
With each new blow the enemy pulls back.
So I, in turn, press on with the attack,
convinced this day that evil we will sack
and love will fill the world with peace and song.
Sonnet for Our Savior

When Jesus spread His arms for us, to die,
The songs of praise in Heaven had to cease.
As angels for the first time learned to cry,
In mourning for the wounded Prince of Peace.
It’s known that God had turned His face away,
Because His Son absorbed a world of sin.
For all on Earth had sorely gone astray
And Jesus paid the price- our souls to win.
What grievous weight upon His shoulders laid.
Why, all the sins the world would ever know.
And what a price our Savior must have paid,
To give His life and feel His Father go.
But now the songs of praise in Heaven ring!
Behold! The Prince returned and now is King!
Spirit Rise

As my soul begins to lift
above the torrent that is life,
I see it now with greater sight,
the meaning of my days.
With my body left behind
and my spirit now set free,
the answers all appear to me,
rising high above the haze.
Now, I understand in full,
what I have only known in part.
And thusly rescued from the dark,
into the afterlife I wade.
With perfect knowledge now I view,
the things that I could barely see.
Yet all that I can take with me,
is only love which I had made.
For love is all we bear away,
departing from this mortal plane.
And all else falls away in vain,
when answering the final call.
This love, in turn, becomes the key,
through which we can unlock the door,
that leads the way to evermore
where, justly, God awaits us all.
The Day All the Toys in the World Broke

On a Friday at Three as the darkness fell,
the shadow of death killed the Keeper of Light.
And at that time, as the sun hid away,
In the special place where happy kids play,
the toys that they loved all broke with a fright.
Not a single toy loved by an innocent child,
could avoid the breaking and tearing doom,
as all of them were broken and torn,
no matter how new or already worn,
in a horrible moment of gloom.
And the tempest that raged at the death of Love,
did drown out the screams of children in pain.
Who wailed in the mud, clutching their toys,
With tears that spoke to the end of all joys,
As the ground streaked with blood from the rain.
In the eerie silence that followed the storm,
The echo’s of agony faded to dark.
As voices gave out and bodies fell numb,
Saturday’s child was still stricken dumb
And all the playgrounds were closed in the park.
On Saturday night, the stricken world mourned-
For it seemed that happiness forever had died.
And so parents tucked their little ones in,
With tears that they shed for regret of their sin,
which convicted them hard in their pride.
But Wonder of Joy the next Sunday morn,
As a brand new sun called the sleepers awake!
The kids found their toys had somehow been fixed.
And parents found out that their guilt had been nixed.
For the Keeper of Light had been raised for their sake.
And the morning bells ringed loud and clear from afar,
As the sun of new hope streamed gold from above.
And the children’s laughter returned in their glee,
As the redemption of sinners set hurting souls free,
For the Light of the World is the True God of Love.
